We didn’t stumble into creativity. We were made for it.
The Sojourn Collective is the faith-centered home for Christian creative professionals — the artists, designers, photographers, architects, writers and makers who refuse to leave their convictions at the studio door.
I didn’t start out as a designer. I started out in a courtroom.
I’m Jennifer Stoner. Before I ever specified a tile or sketched a floor plan, I earned a business degree and a law degree from the University of Florida. I spent years as a litigator at one of the country’s largest firms, then served as in-house legal counsel for Mayo Clinic. I loved the analytical side of that work — the strategy, the structure, the discipline of managing something complicated well.
But the creative side of my soul kept beckoning. Eventually I stopped pretending I couldn’t hear it.
That turn became Jennifer Stoner Interiors, the full-service luxury design firm I lead today from our studio in Richmond’, Virginia. For more than two decades I’ve designed family estates and quiet weekend retreats for clients across the country. I've been honored with awards, spoken at national conferences and been published in a wide variety of media and publications across the design landscape. But all the accolades in the world can't fulfill my true calling.
I share that not to list credentials, but because the path matters. I know what it is to build a real business — the weight of a contract, a payroll, a client trusting you with one of the largest investments of their life. And I know what it is to carry all of that while trying to keep Christ at the center of it.
Somewhere between the inspiration and the invoice, I realized how many of us were building alone.
For most of my career I lived in two rooms. In one, I was a business owner — negotiating vendor contracts, managing timelines, protecting my clients’ time and money. In the other, I was a follower of Jesus who believed every part of that work belonged to Him. What I couldn’t find was a place where those two rooms shared a door.
The secular creative world didn’t speak my language. And the church, as much as I love her, didn’t always know what to do with ambition. When I started talking about it with other creatives, I realized I wasn’t the only one standing in the hallway.
The Sojourn Collective exists for the space in between — a community where excellence in your craft is treated as worship, where ethical business is a form of discipleship, and where our testimonies, the real ones and the hard ones, are shared out loud.
Creativity is not accidental. It is inherited from the Creator Himself.
A sojourner is someone traveling through a place that isn’t quite home. Scripture calls us exactly that (1 Peter 2:11). We build here — and we build well — but we never forget where we’re headed, or who walks with us.
For the serious creative who is also a serious follower of Christ.
The Sojourn Collective is a community for professionals who have built real businesses — and who know their calling and their craft were never meant to be separate.
